Research Topics

The group acts as a link between other thematically close chairs at TU Berlin (e.g. SECT, SESE, CIT) and the departments 8.5 "Metrological IT" and 9.4 "Metrology for Digital Transformation" of PTB and works on topics from both spheres. PTB is currently focusing on the development of the "European Metrology Cloud" and its generalization and adaptation for two subsequent activities, the project "QI Digital" funded by the German Federal Ministry of Commerce and the European cloud initiative GAIA-X.

This group contributes to these projects through its research on security kernels for embedded systems (i.e. microkernels / hypervisors) and on secure distributed system architectures. The group uses its own embedded hypervisor as a research vehicle and also investigates formal methods for system software with a focus on directly analyzing executable machine code. Its distributed system research is currently based on a peer-to-peer architecture of orchestrated microservices with a privacy-preserving distributed ledger as common trust element.
